INDUSTRIAL ACTION AFFECTING NORTHERN TRAIN SERVICES ON THURSDAY 24 MAY

The RMT union has announced that its members working for Northern are planning to take industrial action on Thursday 24 May.

Northern will operate a reduced service between 7am and 7pm.

This is the first GCSE day (Maths exam). Therefore students are asked to consider the impact this may have on their usual journey to college. Please make suitable alternative arrangements to ensure you arrive at college in plenty of time.

The college is subject to external exam regulations and will need to start all exams at the specified times.

Northern Rail’s advice is:

On previous occasions, passengers have been able to use tickets on Arriva Bus services (including Yorkshire Tiger) to make journeys they would otherwise have made by rail.

Customers are advised to use www.nationalrail.co.uk for up-to-date train times on strike days.

People should also give themselves more time to travel.

 Advice for travellers:

  • Allow extra time for your journey.
  • Public transport and roads are expected to be busier than usual on the strike days.
  • Journeys are likely to take longer.

Re-think your journey and travel:

  • by bus.
  • by bike using some of the UK’s best cycling infrastructure.
  • sharing a vehicle with friends.
