Do you care for someone? Do you know your rights?

A carer is anyone who cares, unpaid, for a friend or family member for one of the following reasons:

·         Illness

·         Disability

·         Mental health problem

·         Addiction

Carers Rights Day is on the 20th November and raises awareness of the needs of carers with the public, decision makers and professionals, helping us realise our vision of a society that respects, values and supports carers.

Carers Count are a charity based organisation offering a one stop shop for unpaid adult carers in Kirklees; they can provide information and advice with a wide range of issues. We have invited Carers Count to be at the Waterfront Atrium on the 19th November 11am – 3pm offering information, advice and support to both students and staff – please feel free to pop along and have a chat or take away further information.

Moving forward there will be weekly drop-ins by Carers Count at the Huddersfield and Dewsbury Centres on a fortnightly basis on Thursdays from 12pm – 3pm in the Wellbeing Centres. This drop in is open to both staff and students (17+) to access advice, support or information.

Any further information or enquiries regarding this then please contact Emma Townsend – Student Support Team Leader on extension 7224 or email: etownsend@kirkleescollege.ac.uk.

Future dates for drop ins:

  • DC - 26th Nov
  • HC - 3rd Dec
