        Support worker

Curriculum Support (maths and English) is provided to help you be successful on your chosen course, whether it be assignment writing, issues with spelling, proofreading, maths for your vocational course, organisational skills etc.

When you start a new course you will be required to take an initial assessment in both maths and English. If this identifies that you have any weak areas, it will be compulsory that you have support sessions until you reach the required level.

Alternatively, you can be referred by your tutor, or refer yourself, if you feel the support will help you to succeed on the course.

        The Learning Workshop

Whatever the circumstances, if your tutor or you yourself feel the need for support, then we’ll do our best to help. The Huddersfield Learning Workshop is on the top floor of D Block (D304) above the Flexible Learning Centre, and the Dewsbury Workshop is in A408 - the top floor of A Block.

                        Applying for Additional Learning Support

You can help speed up the process if you do the following!
                        • Provide information and/or reports from school, another college or Connexions. For example: A Statement, School Action + reports, Section 139a assessments, educational psychologist reports, notes from your doctor etc. All information will be treated in the strictest of confidence and you will be asked to complete a short Disclosure record so we have your consent to share any information, for example for exam arrangements.
                        • Let us know by ticking the box on your application and enrolment form
                        • Contact us directly over the summer or before the course starts
                        • For Higher Education students, apply for the Disabled Students’ Allowances when you apply through UCAS
                        • Tell your tutor and ask them to complete an ALS Referral Form on your behalf at any point in the academic year.

All students will have an informal ALS interview and assessment as part of the process from someone in the ALS team.
